Christmas 2008 Photos Of Our LED Christmas Lights Display

For 2008 our Christmas light display had over 61,000 lights, all of them LED, not a single string of incandescent Christmas lights in out entire display. New for 2008 was our giant 18 foot tall snowflake cascade, suspended between my 2 palm trees, which were a hit with the crowd. We doubled the number of LED snowflakes on our roof again.

Setting Up Our Display Thanksgiving Week:

We subleased an articulating lift from a local landscaper for $100, for one day. Below, our 18 foot LED ropelight snowflake cascade lies on the driveway mocked up and ready to suspend from the palm trees.

Below we are wrapping the palm tree trunks with our green net lights, then start preparing the megatree..

Now we start the process of raising my Megatree, which I built to be collapsible. The cherry picker lift will pull up the top of the megatree from above, with all the lights still intact. Look at this rats nest on top of our megatree. The plexiglass sheet on top of the tree protects all the plugs from rain.

Here we ar elifing our megatree bac into it's 12 foot height using the articulating lift. A great engineering feat for our display.

Below we connect all the vertical PVC components that support the tree upright. Screen shot of my Lightorama sequence editor simulation setup.

We finished the big ticket components the first dat so we could give the cheryy picker back to its owner.

We added more lights each day over the coming week until we were done. Below you can see my new Bellagio Fountain light fixtures, built from PVD pipes wrapped with LED strings.
