For Our Mercy Ministry:

What is tithing?
Why should you tithe? The word tithe means 1/10. In the bible, this is the amount of money which God has commanded that we offer to him when we tithe in the offering plate every Sunday. Many people, even good Christians unfortunately fall short in this category, and this is the equivalent of stealing from God. So while you're out buying gifts for the kids, try buying one less gift for them, or have one less glass of wine one night when you dine out and offer one gift for someone who is truly in need. Another idea is for every gift you buy for your family, set aside that same amount to place in the offering plate on Sunday.

What does the Mercy Ministry do with our donations in your collection box?
One reason we do our Christmas display is so we can collect food and financial donations for the Mercy Ministry outreach of our church, the First Presbyterian Church of Margate/Coral Springs. 100% of the funds you donate is used to provide emergency grocery and other aid to local poor people. Since all of us deacons are volunteers, there's no salaries to be paid, no offices to maintain, and thus 0% overhead. The funds go directly into the Deacons Mercy Ministry fund, operated separate from any church account, and used solely for administering aid. Simply stated, 100% of what you donate is used to pay for groceries and grocery cards, medicine, doctors visits, etc., to those whom we have screened thoroughly and determined they have a legitimate and immediate need. Money is never given directly to a recipient, we only give them groceries, or grocery cards, and often we accompany them to buy the groceries to ensure accountability. There are a lot of abandoned wives, widows, and disabled people who fall through the cracks, are overlooked by the government, who simply could not afford life's necessities without the constant generosity of friends like you with a heart for the underdog. Let'sfeed them to God's glory. Our church supplies food to local food banks thru offerings such as these, as well as periodic deacon food and mercy ministry offering collections of our congregation members. Even if you are not religious, God commands ALL of us through his inerrant word, the Holy Bible, to share our blessings with the poor.

If you are coming to see our Christmas lights or you told someone to visit us, please bring non-perishable food items such as canned meats and vegetables, tuna, spaghetti, baby supplies, peanut butter, etc. Bring something that you would want if you were starving. You can also bring cash or checks payable to "First Presbyterian Church" with Mercy Ministry on the memo line, to place in our secure lock box, emptied every hour. We encourage you to give sacrificially to help alleviate our suffering neighbors as commanded by God. May the holy spirit warm your heart and move you to give generously of yourself all year round to those who are so much less fortunate than us.

Jesus told us in Matthew 25 "Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me".
