Thanks for uploading File:-Beausattack1024.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Please stop uploading upscales of images

[edit]

Hello, please stop uploading upscales of existing images. It doesn't add any new detail and is pointless. Hohum (talk) 18:55, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Actually, it does make the images more usable to other websites and hardcopy publications. Also, unless you are the copyright holder, it is nunya. 67.235.200.248 19:24, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:PMC Wagner Troops Train ine Belarus.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. The enlargements are required by actual print magazines to use the pictures. Further, all these pictures are either PD or otherwise available for use. Lastly why should this person care as long as I otherwise follow the rules of attribution. Pat.s.baker62 (talk) 09:56, 6 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, you should post a response at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Pat.s.baker62 rather than here on your talk page: that's where the discussion will happen and be reviewed.
I'm afraid I don't see your angle on how print magazines benefit from Commons hosting larger pixel size duplicates of some of its images. Surely they can do what you're doing and resize up the original images themselves? Belbury (talk) 14:38, 6 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Very simply put. When writing for this magazine, I am requested/required to provide links to usable picture of the proper size, which is usually much larger than the available in the original, and ones that are associated with the point of the work, IE a picture of Charlemagne's coronation when writing about that event. This is the second or third time I have had to address this issue and have given the same explanation. I attribute where required and do not alter the photos otherwise and use the same cc code as the original. No one's copyrights are violated in any way. I sincerely wish that you would withdraw you deletion request, since I fail to see how any of this harms you, or anyone else, in any way. Pat.s.baker62 (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
